Kingsize Bar

The outer wall is covered with graffiti and old playbills. Aside from a small sign in the window, there is no ready indication of the bar's presence. The entry is so small and unassuming that it could easily be overlooked. Next door, the Oscar Wilde traditional Irish bar is much more conspicuous, as is the nearby kiosk selling German sausages. In short, one could be forgiven for not knowing that this end of Friedrichstraße is currently home to one of the most popular bars in Berlin.
Its name is somewhat ironic, for the Kingsize Bar is actually quite small, with only a few chairs. Yet it is often packed full to the last square centimetre. The interior doesn't seem to have changed much since the 1990s, or possibly earlier. Its slightly worn walls appear to have been impulsively decorated with paintings by one artist or another. Yet in reality, everything is much more serious than it appears. After all, the Kingsize Bar belongs to the same group of people who own the Grill Royal, which remains one of the most snobbily trendy restaurants in the city.
