Trippen

Trippen is one of the success stories of German shoe fashion industry, a bit like the Spanish Camper. The story goes that in the Middle Ages the wooden soles of protective footwear intended to keep the fine silk shoes clean in mud and dirt were called trippen. The brand was founded in the 1990s, and its philosophy stays faithful to the name: this is modern, ergonomic and socially conscious design, shoes for everyday needs, suitable for any place and every season - and for the whole family. Last, but not least, it is good value for money. Although experimenting with unusual lines and sole shapes is typical of Trippen, even the most extravagant pair of shoes is surprisingly comfortable to wear. Try them on, you will agree. The fact that both Yohji Yamamoto and Perry Ellis have ordered their shoe collections at Trippen doesn't come as a surprise. The stores are quite similar with their understated design and friendly service; you will feel almost like home and start to act like a kid in a toy shop, impatient to try everything on. Another characteristic feature of the Trippen style is the fact that the brand's collections are not influenced by the latest trends in fashion; there are designs that have stayed unaltered for years, and practically every one of all the designs created during the more than ten years of the brand's existence are still available. Custom-made shoes can also be ordered, choosing from 40 different shades of leather and five kinds of rubber soles. The order is normally fulfilled in three weeks' time and delivered to all four corners of the earth. If you happen to find yourself in Berlin, do visit one of the Trippen stores; the design will make you smile and simply raise your spirits.
