FRANKFURT MUSEUM OF HISTORY

The museum is housed in one of the oldest buildings of the city; the collection featuring some truly outstanding works by the Old Masters, presents an insight into the life of the city's residents from the olden times until the present day. The permanent exhibition comprises a number of chronologically displayed collections dedicated to the medieval Frankfurt, the city in the 16th-18th centuries, the 19th century and, finally, the metropolis between 1866 and 2001. The display features a scale model of the Old Town; temporary exhibitions are hosted on a regular basis. A separate part of the Museum of History is the Children's Museum hosting local history and culture-themed exhibitions aimed specifically at children: all exhibits on view can be touched and explored, thus providing the younger museum-goer with an environment which promotes independent thinking and autonomous knowledge.
