Emma Metzler

Author: Anothertravelguide.com0 COMMENTS

Frankfurt is famous for its museum restaurants, the most sophisticated among which is definitely Emma Metzler, the restaurant of the Museum of Applied Arts. Jacky Strenz, the owner of the restaurant - and the Jacky Strenz Art Gallery - was carrying on a family tradition when she decided to enter the restaurant business. It would hardly be an exaggeration to say that Emma Metzler is also a work of art in its own niche: the restaurant is famous for its excellent wine list, minimalist decor and Italian-German fusion-style cuisine. While the menu is not very large, it certainly impresses with its sophistication. At night, the white minimalist interior of the restaurant exudes an ambience of special intimacy. The architectonic image of the museum itself is also quite intriguing: an ensemble that unites the historical 1804-built classical Metzler villa and a relatively recent design by the American architect Richard Meier, commissioned in the late 1980s when the need for expanding the museum arose. The restaurant was named after Emma Metzler, a former resident of the historical villa, well-known as a patroness of arts.
