Eridanus

The 38-room Hotel Eridanus is housed in a neoclassicism building next door to the Varoulko restaurant. Perhaps this is not the most appealing-looking street in Athens - Pireaus Avenue is one of the main transport arteries of the city, and yet strategically the location of the hotel is excellent: quite close to the Gazi neighbourhood, the Metaxourgeio theatre and Bios, the new media centre which hosts experimental art events and exhibitions and also houses a very popular bar. A certain pretension to the status of a design hotel makes itself felt in the decor; you may even feel slightly confused as you first enter the lobby, an eclectic cross between a hotel and a contemporary art gallery complete with a harpsichord and a pompous spiral staircase. For some unknown reason a standard medium-size room contains a Jacuzzi. And yet, all in all, the rooms are comfortable enough and not even the smallest among those normally offered by hotels in Athens. Besides, just like almost anywhere else in Athens, the view decides everything: the Acropolis is practically stone's throw away.
