Hotel Palazzo Zichy

Hotel Palazzo Zichy is housed in a 19th-century building, a former residence of the famous Hungarian Count Nándor Zichy. Do not expect to find any splendour of the bygone times, though: the historical building is almost completely an embodiment of the 21st-century spirit; it is only in the façade and some details that the charm of the palazzo era survives. Brown, black and grey tones; tasteful minimalism. The rooms are on the small side, the hotel is quiet and peaceful. The lobby features a glass roof and the waiting area is filled with full-bodied sunlight. While the bathroom also features lots of glass, the breakfast hall is hiding on the semi-basement floor: good quality menu and friendly service. From 5 pm, the lobby bar is open to the guests of the hotel: complimentary coffee, tea and biscuits. Hotel Palazzo Zichy most definitely belongs to the value-for-money category and, while it is situated outside the heart of Budapest, the city centre is a mere 15 to 20-minute walk from the hotel. It is also flanked by a seemingly endless string of cosy little pubs - unpretentious and swarming with local youngsters: not a tourist in sight!
Rates: from EUR 89 (for two).
