Central Coffee House

A must-visit for anyone staying in Budapest, Central Coffee House is one of the cosiest cafes in the city, also featuring one of the most democratic price lists - and boasting a fantastic aura, probably due to the fact that since its opening in 1887 the cafe has served as the meeting place for the Hungarian intellectuals: writers, poets, magazine editors, theatre people, photographers, musicians, sculptors and art historians. Everyone seems to have found inspiration here, creating their masterpieces and literally infusing the air with their artistic spirit. Today, everything is still very much alive and vibrating here: people come and go, wander by, eat, drink, snack, have loud conversations, laugh a lot and simply taste this sample of Budapest's unique cafe culture - the Central Coffee House's informal 1930s-style decor, cakes, coffee and national Hungarian cuisine.
