Gerbeaud

The Gerbeaud traditions date back more than 150 years; it is one of the oldest, largest and most famous patisseries in Europe. The business launched in 1858 by Henrik Krugler was eventually purchased by a representative of another dynasty of confectioners, the Swede Emil Gerbeaud who lost no time in making his new acquisition world famous. The Vörösmarty Street cafe soon became the favourite hangout of the Budapest elite of the time - largely due to its special aura as well as the fabulously delicious cakes, coffee and ice-cream. Today, the resplendent decor still boasts its original Louis XV ceiling, Maria Theresa-style chandeliers and wall lamps, as well as marble table tops and brocade curtains. A vast open-air terrace is also available. The palette of various delicacies is equally tempting: brandy cherries, biscuits, the famous Esterházy and Dobos cakes.Yum-yum...
The adjacent Gerbeaud-owned Onyx restaurant serves sophisticated and expensive gourmet cuisine.
