10 Corso Como

10 Corso Como, nestled in a cozy courtyard of Milan, was opened in 1990 by the prominent gallerist and a publicist, Carla Sozzani. The charming signora has turned a former backyard of a car parts store into a trendy fashion and style emporium, containing a restaurant, a bar, a café, a fashion boutique, an art gallery and a book shop. There's even a small hotel, with a self-explanatory name, 3Rooms. It's a place to go if you have a passion for fashion, to absorb a pure quintessence of what's hip and trendy in the current design world. It somewhat resembles a museum of contemporary style and design, with exhibits constantly competing among themselves in their extremity. The clothing and accessories boutique would be the best starting point of a tour. Aside from crème de la crème of present cult brands, it features creations of young designers and Corso Como own collections. A special spot is reserved for Azzedine Allaia - a favorite of Carla Sozzani herself. It offers also a remarkable footwear collection (from Prada to Manolo Bhlanik), accessories and design items.
The restaurant, grown into a lush greenery of the cozy patio, is an ideal spot for a light midday meal. Like a genuine vegetarians' dream, its cuisine is fresh, healthy and natural. The menu says that even flowers, used for decorations, are edible. Firstly, fresh complimentary fennel, carrots and radish, cut into nice bits come in a small wooden basket. Relaxing Corso Como music plays in the background and the list of its pieces is available in the menu as well. It contains also a concise Italian-English gastronomy glossary. "Find out for yourself" can be a tasteful pass-time while waiting for your order. Be sure to choose a table overlooking the entrance and the best fashion show in Milan is guaranteed! It's a live display of anything you can see on glossy pages of fashion magazines.
After a meal, you can tread up to the top floor book shop. It's among the best of its kind in Europe and boasts an excellent selection of art, design, fashion and photography books. Numerous music gems can be found in its CD section, too. Do not miss a chance of visiting Corso Como art gallery - it has featured solo-shows of the most prominent present-day fashion photographers, and its regularly changing exhibitions never fail to intrigue.
