Cul de Sac

This is the oldest vinotheque in the city; you will find it listed in the Wallpaper City Guide as well. Non-existent design, 1400 bottles of wine, an elongated room with small tables - everything seems a bit primitive and robust, hardly the look of a place for true wine enthusiasts. And yet - don't let appearances deceive you: here you will find the best Italian cheeses and one of the best Greek salads in Rome.

Great option for a light lunch or dinner in Rome. It's just off of Piazza Navona, one of Rome's prettiest squares, and the menu has lots of light, innovative vegetarian options, as well as traditional dishes. Particularly good are the Roman-style beef involtini and the pastas with seasonal vegetables. Highly recommended (I've been going there for years and the service can be erratic but the food is always good, and comes out fast). - a Scot in Rome
