Giolitti

Giolitti is the oldest ice-cream café in Rome and is still run today by descendants of the original founders. The ice-cream has barely changed since the café's opening in 1890 and the recipes continue to be kept under wraps. While this unique spot does have a few downsides, these are outweighed by the fact that Giolitti probably serves the best ice-cream in Rome.
The never-ending crowds of gourmands, including tourist groups, require nerves of steel, as the queues appear to be infinite. (People with "crowd phobia" should therefore not visit the café on Saturdays). In order to get your desired balls of ice-cream, you first have to stand in the "cash queue" before taking your receipt to the "ice-cream queue," which extends for a number of metres. However, good things do come to those who wait! The jangled nerves from your long wait will instantly be soothed once you experience the mild, creamy texture and authentic flavour of ice-cream as it should be, not to mention the fine selection of sorbets, which are also superb.
