Laboratorio 2729

Laboratorio 2729 is one of the most unusual galleries of applied arts and design in the whole of Venice. Opened quite recently, it is the pet project of the Italian architects Francesca Meratti and Massimo Barbierato, the owners of the nearby (Campo San Barnaba) Madera design shop. Laboratorio 2729 is a showroom, a gallery and a platform for new ideas all in one. This building used to house a small shop of artist and artisan equipment, one of the last in the city. If you close your eyes when standing in the tiny narrow street in the district of Dorsoduro where no-one not in the know would ever think of looking for a contemporary design gallery, you will almost hear the noise of old-fashioned tools in the hands of the old Venetian craftsmen. The air is still filled with imagination, ideas, creativity; this is the perfect spot to carry on the tradition of innovation. Labroratorio 2729 is a laboratory of ideas and techniques, a place for extraordinary experiments, both with traditional and innovative materials, making their essence acquire new and completely unexpected nuances. Wood that looks surprisingly fragile. Gres panels more reminiscent of felt, cardboard or paper. Everything exhibited at Laboratorio 2729 is a unique original work: lighting fixtures, chairs, design objects, etc. Most of the things are created at Laboratorio 2729, however, artists, designers and architects from other European countries are also represented at the gallery.
The place was temporary closed on 2009.
