The Venice Biennale

Biennale di Venezia is one of the most important art events in the world and requires no further comments. The first art biennial in Venice took place in 1895 when the King Umberto I was present at the opening ceremony. The likes of Henri Matisse, Max Ernst, Lucio Fontana and Henry Moore are among the artists who have been awarded its Grand Prizes. Although the words "Venice Biennial" bring to mind an exhibition of visual arts for most people, it is actually a much more comprehensive body of culture events, including the Architecture Biennial, the Venice Film Festival and international festivals of contemporary dance, theatre and contemporary music.
