Pensione La Calcina

The main virtues of this three-star hotel are the view - in some rooms the windows open to the Giudecca island situated just opposite - and the location, comparative proximity to the Guggenheim Museum and Galleria dell'Accademia. The Dei Gesuati church with vault paintings by the Venetian artist of the 17th century Gianbattista Tiepolo. The long promenade along the bank of the Giudecca Canal is perfect for a nice stroll. In 1876 this building was home to the famous British art critic and collector John Ruskin. The rooms with the view of the canal are reasonably large and clean - perhaps slightly short in individuality, but the view definitely more than compensates for that. Besides - surely you haven't come here just to enjoy your accommodation? The only shortcoming of the place is the special fragrance someone has taken a lot of trouble to create in each room: it will take a while to get rid of it.
The hotel has a "floating terrace" of its own: a restaurant where breakfast is served on sunny and warm mornings.
Rates: EUR 65 - 187 (low season); EUR 90 - 239 (during the height of the tourist season).
