Locanda 800, Moron

A destination for gourmands in the Veronese countryside, right in the heart of the Valpolocella wine region. Locanda 800 is just a 15-minute drive from Verona, in a small village that consists of just a couple of houses. Built in 1799, the property has been carefully restored, preserving all of its former splendour and charm – but with cleverly unobtrusive elements that also give it a contemporary aura.

The place has always been a public house, the main difference being that in its historic heyday, its guests arrived by horse-drawn carriage, usually spending the night there as well. Keeping the ancient tradition alive, today's Locanda 800 is both a restaurant and a small and cosy four-room B&B. The main attraction, however, is the restaurant – a true mecca for lovers of good food. Even though the menu is based on dishes traditional to the region, the chef's contemporary refinements urge it towards truly fine cuisine. In any case, dinner at Locanda 800 is a true culinary adventure, and if you're well-versed in wines, your enjoyment will be double: the restaurant's basement level contains a wine cellar and tasting room that are worth visiting both before and after dinner so as to finish off your meal with the pride of the region – Amarone wine made from partially dried grapes. The service is impeccable and the atmosphere is divine. Locanda 800 also has a garden and terrace that are open on warm summer afternoons and evenings. Since the owners also make their own wines, what you have enjoyed and tasted on the premises can also be purchased for home use.
