Skrīveri Homemade Ice-Cream (Skrīveru Mājas Saldējums)
Author: Anothertravelguide.com0 COMMENTS

It all began when homemade ice-cream made by the Sotnieki family in the Latvian village of Skrīveri took by storm green fairs all over the country, as well as the heart of the popular chef Mārtiņš Rītiņš of the Vincents Restaurant, known for his exacting approach to ingredients and products - a heart not easily warmed by icy delicacies of this sort. And how could it fail do so? The artisan ice-cream from Skrīveri thumbed its metaphorical nose at the world of E-numbers galore and powder-made ice-cream, sticking to all things natural and using genuine flavours instead of artificial essences.
While the flavours vary from season to season, ice-cream lovers are spoilt for choice throughout the year: the assortment features thirty-odd flavours, including almost twenty different fruit and berry sorbets.
Ice-cream, however, is not meant for counting or for discussing. Ice-cream is there to be enjoyed. So here is what you do: find the Skrīveri Homemade Ice-Cream and challenge yourself with some not-quite-run-of-the-mill ice-cream flavours for a change. Where do you stand on chocolate ice-cream with sea-buckthorn and chilli or chocolate ice-cream with blue cheese? Perhaps you would like a horseradish ice-cream with beetroot accompanied with some sprats? Or a blue cheese and tarragon ice-cream served with some lettuce, olives, peppers, assorted cheeses and ham?
If you are not quite up to some of the most outlandish flavours on offer, dig your teeth into some mint cream-based ice-cream and enjoy the rush of coolness - or sample a sphere of white milk ice-cream that makes you think of summery wool-pack clouds; feel the fresh fragrance of a forest meadow, accompanied by some lingonberry or bilberry ice-cream and gather your strength for an evening party with the help of some 'Riga Black Balsam' or ostrich-egg liqueur-flavoured or refreshing beer ice-cream.
