Jumava

After several years in the Old Town of Riga, the former „Central Antique Bookstore", like most other book shops, has ended up in a basement. Since some time ago, it is owned by Jumava, one of the largest Latvian publishing houses; it seems only natural, therefore, that the antique and second-hand bookstore is now housed in the same building as the main Jumava bookstore and headquarters. Compared to the shop's previous premises, the basement version is the narrowest of all, creating the special ambience familiar to any die-hard antique book hunter - after a few hours' worth of unhurried searching, the seeming chaos occasionally yields some genuine surprises and real gems. Foreign language books are not the forte of this bookstore, its pride being the wide choice of art books and publications dating from the inter-war period as well as Latvian and Russian language fiction published in different times.
