For centuries, the rija, or threshing barn, was one of the most important edifices in traditional Latvian farmsteads.

RIIJA is good place to obtain authentic souvenirs that are also practical and useful. For this reason, the store's concept author, fashion designer Natālija Jansone, has also termed RIIJA as a "household goods store."
