PUTTI Art Gallery

The PUTTI* Art Gallery is the only one in Riga representing such a wide circle of the best and most talented Latvian jewellery artists; showcased against the backdrop of the laconic and harmonious decor, their works live side by side with a collection of clothing and accessories. The list of the authors includes Valdis Brože, Jānis Vilks, Zane Lavrinoviča, Māris Auniņš, Guntis Lauders, Gints Strēlis, Māris Šustiņš and Aigis Auders, each of them distinct with his or her own unique style. The works vary from striking variations on the theme of ethnic elements, inspired by a diversity of national cultures, to almost Bauhaus-like clarity and austerity of lines, from appealing post-modern compositions to free interpretations of natural shapes.
All pieces of jewellery on view at the gallery are unique hand-made objects, interesting also as works of stand-alone art and design, created from silver and gold with precious and semi-precious stones, mammoth tusk, ebony, etc. The designers represented at the gallery work in different original techniques, using a diversity of methods, including casting, enamelling, etching, intaglio, cameo and inlaying.
The PUTTI Gallery was founded in 2000 with the objective of promoting Latvian contemporary jewellery design and works by Latvian jewellery artists both at home and internationally. From 2006, the PUTTI Gallery is housed in custom-designed premises at 16 Mārstaļu Street in the Old Town.
The gallery also works with the Latvian fashion designers Elita Patmalniece, Terēze Grundmane (children's clothing) and the Latvian fashion brand katyakatya shehurina. The PUTTI Gallery regularly hosts exhibitions and events promoting Latvian jewellery and fashion design. The place always greets with an easy-going and relaxed atmosphere; it is one of the few spots in Riga where you can completely forget all about time and the everyday chaos, embracing the triumph of quality design.

*Putti (plural of the Italian Putto) - a playful figure of a little angel in fine arts, frequently featured in Renaissance and Baroque paintings and reliefs.
