Night Market

Riga's Night Market can be found not far from the Central Market, next to the happening new Spīķeri "creative quarter" on Maskavas Street. It operates from late evening until dawn. At around 9 p.m., farmers begin to arrive, their vehicles laden with boxes and bags of freshly picked produce - tomatoes, cucumbers, cauliflower and gigantic bouquets of greens. Buyers are mostly resellers who will take all of this bounty to market come morning, but the farmers will gladly sell you a couple of kilos of their freshest goods.
The main reason to visit, though, is the atmosphere. In one corner of the marketplace is a café that is called... the Café (Kafejnīca). Neither the service nor the food would merit four stars, but standard, hearty fare is available all night long and the experience is priceless.
