Prie Angelo

Author: Anothertravelguide.com0 COMMENTS

The restaurant Prie Angelo is located in Užupis - a district of artists, known also as the "Monmartre" of Vilnius. Prie Angelo is one of the spots that have acquired their distinctive patina over a long period of time and enchants just as much as the voice of the legendary Edith Piaf, whose songs are played in the background.
The place is scattered with many small angels, while, through the windows, you can watch life flowing by under the wings of a big bronze angel blowing a trumpet. It's a symbol of Užupis and represents the rebirth and artistic freedom of this part of the city. It stands on top of a column in the main Užupis square, replacing an oversized egg sculpture that previously occupied the summit of the same obelisk.
Prie Angelo offers a very diverse cuisine, both menu- and price-wise, containing also traditional Lithuanian dishes. Be sure to try typical Lithuanian non-alcoholic drink kvas that is made of rye bread and honey and served in a glass carafe. Savoring in small sips from a wine glass, you can easily tell apart its main ingredients - black rye bread and honey.
