The best cheese store in Amsterdam, located in Runstraat, one of the nine legendary shopping streets. The shop is quite small but jam-packed with cheeses of all shapes and sizes, 200 different brands altogether, including a few European rarities found by the owners as well as lots and lots of Dutch cheeses. All of the cheeses on offer have been prepared according to ancient traditional cheese-making methods. Don't hesitate to consult the shop assistants; there is no other way to find what you are looking for. And don't worry about the old transportation problem, the De Kaaskamer trademark travel packaging is safe enough: the cheese will stay fresh and you fellow-travellers won't be irritated by the, er, aroma of your edible travel souvenir. Just one thing to bear in mind: credit cards are not accepted here.
