Nowy Wspanialy Swiat

Late 2009 saw a new cultural centre - Nowy Wspanialy Swiat (Brave New World) - open its door in Warsaw. The initiator of the project was Krytyka Polityczna (Political Critique), a Polish circle of left-wing intellectuals; the list of sponsors includes the City Council. The centre is scheduled to stay open for three years. Nowy Wspanialy Swiat, a multi-medial cultural centre, hosts exhibitions and film screenings; there is a special room for watching video projections of theatre productions by famous directors. Debates, literary readings and panel discussions are held regularly. The first floor also houses a book stall and a grand cafe that has already acquired the status of a cult place in the Warsaw artistic circles. The walls are often used for film and video art screenings; the cafe itself serves as a platform for conversations, meetings and discussions. The walls of the vast room are lined by columns; while traditional tables are placed in the centre, both sides of the room are perfect for reclining on the pillows - choose whatever suits your mood. In the other room, a total chill-out ambience dominates even in the middle of the day: the lights are dimmed, and you would be hard pressed to find a single unoccupied lounge. The cafe is open daily from 9 am to 3 am; proceeds are used to finance various projects of the cultural centre.
