Solar do Castelo

Like Palácio Belmonte, Solar do Castelo is located in the oldest and undeniably most beautiful part of Lisbon, in Alfama, at the foot of the Castelo de São Jorge palace. Guidebooks tend to describe it as a budget version of Palácio Belmonte. That's not really fair, though - although ambience-wise the place has a feel of a small hotel rather than a palace, this is definitely one of the most charming of overnight places in Lisbon. It's particularly popular on weekends. The 18th century building was originally a palace cookhouse; part of the rooms are located in the older building, the others (the less expensive ones) in the new extension. The real charm of the place, of course, is best experienced in the old part of the building. The hotel is owned by the Hotels Heritage Lisboa group. The cosy courtyard with the shady relaxation room is worth a visit even if you are not staying there. Besides, Wi-Fi wireless internet access is available.
