Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts

The Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, the main complex of which consists of four buildings on Volkhonka Street, houses the finest collection of Western art and antiques in Moscow, including works by famous European sculptors and an excellent collection of Impressionists. Quite recently a gallery of European and American art was opened in the new building - 10 Volkhonka Street - dedicated to works of art created from the 19th century to the second half of the 20th century (the exposition opens with examples of Romantic art and the Barbizon school, moves on to Impressionism and closes with a show of avant-garde painting). The Pushkin Museum is currently the home of several hundred works of art brought back by the Red Army after World War II; these masterpieces are registered as "property of the Russian state".
