1812

1812 is one of the most significant years in the Russian history - Russia gained the victory over Napoleon, and the epoch of flourishing of the Tsarist Empire began. The estate of Mescherskaya princess too was partially ruined during the great Moscow fire, which devastated most of the city, yet the general Orlov built a new mansion in its place. The cream of society of those days enjoyed incredible luxury, lavish dishes and beverages there. Maybe not as grand as gleaming in gold Turandot, the restaurant 1812, set up in these historic premises, still exudes a great deal of pretentiousness. Opened by Moscow restauranteur Alexander Dvorkin, its décor doesn't miss neither snow-white columns, nor plaster sculptures or velvet upholstered furniture. And that is not all yet! Russian military banners and officers' swards proudly bedeck its walls, and wide stairs with lacy iron banisters lead to the second floor. Every detail hints at huge investments - starting from silver tableware and fine porcelain to special uniforms of waiters. Everything has been done to attain the heights of the 19th century luxury. Yet the true authenticity gets somewhat overshadowed by all the glitter and overabundance of as if historic richness.
Nevertheless, its superb cuisine keeps to the best traditions of that time, while the price level can be compared to the restaurant Pushkin. Soups are in the area of 5 to 8LVL, main course - 15 to 25 LVL and above. Mostly business elite and foreigners are among diners, while people of creative circles can hardly ever be seen there. 1812 is a place to choose for a special occasion, or else if you crave to savor unlimited Russian luxury and an outstanding service.
