Galereya

In 2004, when Arkady Novikov, the king of Moscow restaurants, opened his Galereya, it became the "it" place of the metropolis overnight: the whole swelldom of Moscow gathered there, it was next to impossible to get a table at night. Times have changed, the gilded crowd has moved on to new watering holes but Galereya is still a place well worth paying a visit. The restaurant lives up to the very best European standards: fusion cuisine, classy and understated interior in brown and chocolate tones - minimalist and understated, which is more than could be said of the scope of the place. It is at least three times as big as the average Paris or London eatery; let's call it a Moscow-size restaurant. It boasts a lounge and library and a Zen garden, metal toilet bowls of the latest design and cloak-room "tickets" - stylised little paintings in wood frames... Outstandingly good and very friendly service. Open 24 hours a day.
