Author: Anothertravelguide.com0 COMMENTS

The exhibition hall set up in the cavalry arena designed by Giacomo Quarenghi is the largest in St Petersburg. It hosts extensive art exhibitions and festivals as ell as concerts of classical and contemporary music. One of the essential missions of the exhibition hall is holding international exhibitions, the most significant of which are the Dialogues Biennial and the International Festival of Experimental Art. For the last 15 years the Centre has been collecting contemporary works of art by St Petersburg-based artists; the amassed collection lists over two thousand items. It is planned to become the basis of the future Museum of Contemporary Art. From its first day the collection has been intended to focus on the 20th century artists as well as follow all the latest trends in art. It provides a comprehensive overview of the development of art in St Petersburg, from the 1920s to the present day.
