The Marble Palace (Mramorny Dvorets), constructed using 32 different kinds or marble for its interior and façade, houses the Modern Art Department of the Russian Museum. It hosts temporary exhibitions and features two permanent expositions. One of them is the Brothers Rzhevsky Collection comprising some of the finest examples of the 19th-20th century art; the treasures of the collection are paintings by Mikhail Nesterov, Mstislav Dobuzhinsky and Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin. The other one is the collection of the Ludwig Museum founded in 1995 by Peter and Irene Ludwig; the main objective of the collection comprising 118 works, including some by the greatest classics of Modernism, is presenting as big a variety of styles and media as possible in within limited space.
