Cafe Idiot (Russian Cuisine)
Author: Anothertravelguide.com0 COMMENTS
A favorite meeting venue of young, chic and unconventional crowd of St. Petersburg. Although the original splendor of the Café Idiot has faded, it still continues to outshine many other, more traditional eateries. Dostoevsky-inspired restaurant boasts antique furniture, chandeliers, dating back to the 50s - 60s of the last century, oil paintings and even a small library, containing not only Russian but also English language reading. The Idiot offers Russian vegetarian cuisine in an underground decadence setting with a light Soviet-style touch. A distinct bohemian vibe makes it worth a visit and food is good too, but do not expect much more. Yet, a shot of vodka, appetizers and a travel into several decades old history is guarantied. It may become an exotic experience, however, mostly for younger generation, who has never tasted Soviet-time charms in reality.
