Leningrad (Russian and International Cuisine)

Author: Anothertravelguide.com0 COMMENTS

Opened in 2008, Leningrad is a newcomer on the city's restaurant and dining scene. Certain nostalgia for the old-time Leningrad feels in its name and a concept. The restaurant is sited in a former factory close to Lenfilm film studios. Its décor melts together art deco reminiscences and the Soviet-time sentimentality. A main dining hall seats 220 people and live music of the 70's and jazz is played on a small stage at nights. It features high ceiling, columns, white-clad tables and a somewhat fake and stylized interpretation of Soviet glamour. A long time has passed since then and memories have faded, so to say...Tables are decorated with white tulips, although red carnations would suite better, of course...Leningrad along with a panorama-restaurant Moskva and a bar Korova (A Cow) belongs to the well-known Decadence restaurant group. Menu has two pages, entitled "Russian" and "New Russian". A traditional section comprises Kiev style meatballs (480 rubles), chicken tabaka (680 rubles), mushroom julienne (450 rubles), borshch (300 rubles), cabbage patties, soup a la Boris Yeltsin, home-made kvass and traditional vodka "nastoikas". A "New Russian" version, in its turn, boasts oysters, foie gras, Cezar salad and an impressive wine list. An excellent service.
