HOUSE OF FLOWERS

HOUSE OF FLOWERS

This imposing "museum" is in fact the mausoleum of former Yugoslavian leader Josip Broz Tito, as well as the repository of gifts that he received during his term as president. For example, one can find an original print of Goya's Los Caprichos there, as well as a large number of other equally valuable items. This place gained the title House of Flowers due to the piles of flowers that always decorated Tito's last resting place until it was closed to the public ten years after the dissolution of the Yugoslavian Socialist Federal Republic. The entire complex is now open again, with free entry to tourists and admirers of Tito. A large number of people gather here on Tito's birthday (May 25), which was also known as Youth Day during the socialist period.
