MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART

The building is currently under renovation!

Belgrade's Museum of Contemporary Art, which was established in 1958 as the Modern Art Museum, is located not far from the place where the Sava River runs into the Danube. The museum building, which is considered to be one of the pearls of Belgrade's post-war architecture, was designed by the best architect in Yugoslavia at the time, Ivan Antic.

The museum collection consists of art created in Serbia and the former Yugoslavia during the period from 1900 until the end of the century. It is the most significant collection of 20th century Yugoslavian art, exhaustively illustrating directions in art and expressions of the latest trends in the country in the context of the development of Western art. The works in the museum's collection are split up into separate sections: Painting from 1900 to 1945; Painting after 1945; Sculptures; Prints and Drawings; and New Art Media.

Among the many Balkan artists, there are also Western and American Modernists, including, Max Ernst, Robert Rauschenberg, Roy Lichtenstein, David Hockney, Andy Warhol, Joan Miró, Antoni Tàpies and others. The museum also organizes international exhibitions of modern and contemporary art.
