Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA)

The MACBA museum of contemporary art, located in the historical working class district of Barcelona, became the inspiration and symbol of its growth and development. The 1995 building, designed by the American architect Richard Meier, is one of the destinations of architectural tourism in the city and is obviously competing with its own contents, a permanent exhibition of late 20th century art. It is a dazzling white building with a white lobby and a glass and metal atrium that joins the three stories, and makes excellent use of the natural daylight: on sunny days you get an almost physical sensation of it entering the building, particularly the top floor where the ceiling is higher and there is more natural light.
