Casa Camper

Author: Anothertravelguide.com0 COMMENTS

Casa Camper is a perfect manifestation of the philosophy of the best-known Spanish brand of footwear. The hotel is housed in a 1850 building and is an ardent follower of the latest trends in environmental conservation. Everything you see is recycled, there are no TV sets in the rooms and the décor is very simple. You could even call it an excellent form of therapy for affluent professionals (because the rates can't exactly be called low) who are made to feel like students again. At least for a moment. As you get more acquainted with the place, you come to realise that the striking asceticism has been planned to the slightest detail. First there is the bell button at the front door. Then you notice the bicycles attached to the ceiling: no, it is not an element of the design, you really can rent one - for example, to go on a cool tour of the local tapas bars. The lounge is somewhat like a self-service kitchen: help yourself to whatever strikes your fancy (appetisers, champagne anyone?) and settle down with a newspaper wherever you please. Lorenzo Fluxá who founded Camper in 1975 belongs to the fourth generation of a family of shoemakers. He likes to call his pet project a cultural brand - as opposed to a fashion one. As far as he is concerned, being a cultural brand means that the link you have formed with your customers is more of an emotional, not material nature (as far as it's possible in the utilitarian world we live in). Camper means "a peasant" in the Catalan language, and, indeed, the trademark style of the brand has largely been inspired by the traditional footwear worn by farmers. Camper is definitely a producer of shoes with a personality, and Casa Camper is an excellent embodiment of the ideas championed by the brand in the form of a hotel.
