Room Mate Gerard

Author: Anothertravelguide.com0 COMMENTS

The joyous, popular boutique hotel chain Room Mate Hotels has just opened its fifth hotel in Barcelona, the Room Mate Gerard. As per the chain’s mythology, which promises to make a stay at its hotels feel like visiting an old friend (all you have to do is choose the soul mate that best fits your mood at that moment), this time the main hero is Gerard, a fictive Catalonian architect who adores modernist buildings. And Jaime Beriestain, the well-known architect from Barcelona who designed the hotel’s interior, has carried out this concept to perfection. Despite having 66 rooms, arriving at the Room Mate Gerard really feels like walking into someone’s home, albeit a gigantic one. The colour palette is predominantly grey and ink black, and concrete and sandblasted pine are some of the main materials used, but every now and then a bright design object or modernist work of art splashes through the neutral tones. The Room Mate Gerard is located in the Eixample district, near the historical Barri Gòtic neighbourhood and the Palau de la Música Catalana, a modernist masterpiece.
