Hotel Axel

The British style Bible Wallpaper has labelled this hotel hetero-friendly, and it's actually hard to think of a better way to describe it. Unless you suffer from a bad and neglected case of homophobia, you will find this an ideal and definitely very friendly place to spend the night in Barcelona. It was opened in 2003 in an elegant 19th century building, in the very heart of the gay district and literally a few blocks from Las Ramblas. The location is practically perfect. The design is very understated and elegant: furniture by Vitra, Kartell and Swan. Large and comfortable rooms. An intriguing light-box instead of a wall décor: you switch it on, and a light-up artistic photo of a naked male torso appears. The bathroom contains a complete kit of safe sex. A wonderful rooftop bar with a fabulous view of Barcelona. Excellent for some lazy work on your tan on a sunny spring day. The ground floor houses a stylish little menswear shop with carefully selected samples of the latest trends.
