El Mama, La Papa

El Mama, La Papa

El Mama, La Papa– yes, that’s the unusual name of a new café-restaurant in Barcelona. The owner wished to play with the idea of the dualities that dwell within each one of us, some more visible, other less so. Man and woman, father and mother, light and dark, black and white. The restaurant is located in a former warehouse, and aspects of the industrial nature of the space have been preserved in the restaurant; some of those details are even accented with bright red paint. The main elements are two arcades – one white, one black – which serve as backdrops to two bars in opposite corners of the restaurant. One of the bars, called El Mama, operates during the daytime, while the La Papa bar is for evening and cocktails, when (as befits the Spanish temperament) the floor turns into a fervent dance hall.
