Enigma

Renowned Catalonian chef Albert Adrià’s new restaurant, Enigma, provides an exceptional experience both gastronomically and in the realm of interior design. The interior, which Adrià imagined as ‘frozen and enigmatic’, was created in collaboration with the Pritzker Prize-winning architecture office RCR Arquitectes. It all began with a watercolour painting, which, after the application of the most visionary of technological solutions, was almost identically realised in three dimensions. The restaurant was literally put together like a 3D puzzle, because each piece (or stone slab) is differently shaped, and each must fit perfectly into its own space. The resulting effect is a bit like a labyrinth, with everything seeming to be in constant motion – the shadows, the lights, the forms, etc. Entry to the restaurant is only possible with a special code, which one obtains after successfully making a reservation and paying a deposit. In an effort to keep the enigma alive, guests are repeatedly asked to not post photos of their meals on social media. When you finally see the restaurant for yourself, you’ll understand why!
