A unique place - a real find. It's actually quite easy to miss since there is no restaurant sign outside. The first moment is somewhat puzzling: three huge dining halls, the last one opening to a courtyard. The place seats some 300 people, and yet the design is so clever that you hardly even notice. In design and ambience it's the ultimate Catalonian experience. 19th century shelves with funny-looking white dishes, hard to identify at first glance: fruit bowls? Is it for sweets? Excellent value for money. Actually, it's quite astonishing. How can great food be so inexpensive in the very centre of Barcelona? The service is incredibly swift, and that's a rarity in places of this quality. Interestingly enough, most of the waiters are Asian although there is nothing oriental about the menu. And then the secret is revealed... Originally - not that long ago either - this place was catering exclusively to weddings (imagine a great Catalan wedding!), hence the puzzling white dishes. There has been a change of policy, the restaurant is being transformed from a place with closed doors into a welcoming spot open to anyone, and the friendly prices are a deliberate policy. The customers are mostly people in the know: there is no shortage of diners, and yet the place is never crowded.
