Brondo Architect, Palma

The Brondo Architect is one of the most resplendent newcomers to appear on Malorca's hotel scene in the last few years. This hotel-cum-design showroom is spread out between two adjacent buildings, and also enlists two radically different architectural styles - reminiscences of 17th-century classical Mallorcan architecture crossed with industrial chic. Serving as an extravagant bridge, a 135 m2-restaurant with an open patio symbolically links both buildings together. The hotel has only 14 rooms, the interior design schemes of which vary by theme - music, travelling, architecture, the sea, time - all with a light, bohemian touch. Five of the rooms are suites with private balconies. A sort of artistic and carefree lightheartedness permeates Brondo Architect - hippy accents mixed with icons of contemporary design lead one to think that its architects (N6 architects, from Spain) created the hotel as an homage to their profession. Indicative of this is the fact that several of the rooms have been named after well-known architects: Louis (Khan), Alvar (Aalto), Frank (Lloyd Wright), etc. The hotel also has an impressive library with more than 500 published works on the subject of architecture. Last but not least, the rooms here are spacious and rather nicely priced - especially when one takes into account the hotel's location: the very centre of Palma.
