Casa Fernando, Palma

Undeniably, what one yearns for most when on holiday in the Mediterranean islands is to fill up on all of the tasty seafood that the region offers. When attempting to achieve this goal in the locale of Parma, you'll be hard-pressed to find a better restaurant than Casa Fernando - a small seafood bistro tucked away in the fishermen's quarter of Ciudad Jardin.

The menu is conditional - diners make their choice from the four-metre-long glass display case, within which most every sea creature ever discovered has been laid out on ice. Everything is prepared in just one way - grilled (a la plancha) - and the cooking happens right there behind the counter - and to the point of perfection. This is the greatest surprise here, that even such simply prepared food can taste so incredibly good: fresh fish and other seafood topped with just a dash of salt and pepper, and then some good-quality olive oil on the grill-pan. Mushrooms cooked in the same manner are just as delicious. The portions are large, and the prices adequate for such an amount; Casa Fernando's choice of wines is also very good. Even though it may seem like you could literally eat everything they have, try not to go overboard - you don't want to end up like the fellows in the film "La grande bouffe".
