Mirador de na Foradada, between Valldemossa and Deià

This is a place more known for its panoramic views than its food. The restaurant sits atop the very edge of a cliff - on one side are the summits of the Serra de Tramuntana, on the other - the Mediterranean Sea. Adding to the place's specialness is the rock formation jutting into the sea down below - with an empty hole for an eye socket, it truly calls a sea-monster to mind. The "eye-socket" is actually 18 metres in diameter, and when the sun sets, a bright ray of light shines right through it and out into the sea. Even though Sa Foradada has several dining rooms, as well as the option of eating indoors, the only real reason to come here is to enjoy the view from its terrace. Be sure to find out if there is a wind on the day of your visit (on windy days the terrace is closed), and in any case, do not arrive before 8 PM - any earlier and the sun beats down directly onto the terrace, and even the available sun shades are of no help. The service at Sa Foradada is a bit chaotic, and even though paella is their house speciality, it is nowhere near as good as the paella to be had elsewhere. Nevertheless, all of the traditional Spanish seafood dishes - various permutations of calamari, etc. - are excellent. The prices are friendly, and the sunset - amazing.
