Sigtuna

The town of Sigtuna, built a thousand years ago on the shore of Lake Mälaren, was once the most important Swedish city; the seat of the royal court, it was the country's religious and political centre which held on to its influential status for 250 years. Today, the historical town, located quite close to Stockholm, is mostly known as an idyllic location for romantic walks, featuring lovely little wooden houses, vast gardens and medieval walls. Visit the local market, open on Sundays.
