Thielska galleriet / Thiel Art Gallery

The Thiel Art Gallery located in the far end of the Island of Djurgården is one of Sweden's most sophisticated art museums. The permanent exhibition on view is a unique collection of Nordic art dating from the previous turn of the century. It was created by the banker Ernest Thiel, a close friend to some of the most prominent artists of his time. The collection comprising works by Edvard Munch, Bruno Liljefors, Karl Larsson, Anders Zorn, Eugène Jansson, August Strindberg, et al is housed in Thiel's mansion designed in 1905 by the architect Ferdinand Boberg and purchased by the state in 1924.
