The Vasa royal warship, built on commission from King Gustav Adolf, overturned just minutes after leaving the Stockholm harbour in 1628. In 1961, The Vasa was brought up from the sea bottom and is currently on view at the museum in the Island of Djurgården. Alongside the ship, the museum, equipped with modern technologies, also houses an extensive interactive exhibition dedicated to the Swedish 17th-century navigation, trade and military industry.
