International Museum of the Red Cross and Red Crescent

It was in Geneva that the Red Cross - the world's first humanitarian organisation - was founded; it comes as no surprise, therefore, that the 1988-opened museum is among the most visited places in the city. The museum's eleven room strong permanent exhibition traces the 140 years worth of the organisation's history, from its humble origins to the present day, illustrating and elaborating the principles and activities of the Red Cross and red Crescent. The installations, sculptures, objects, photographs and film footage are presented within a contemporary multi-medial framework. Alongside the historical aspect of the organisation, the museum also features all the latest information from the Red Cross headquarters as well as video footage from the world's current conflict zones.
