Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MAMCO)

The 1994-founded MAMCO, housed in a converted old factory building, has evolved into one of the most vibrant and dynamic art centres in the city. The industrial-style design of the building allows for constant flexible rearrangement of the museum's interior three times a year, including a change or expansion of the permanent exhibition. The museum's collection comprises a comprehensive range of works dating from the early 1960s to the present day: installations, video works, paintings, photographs and sculptures. The light-hearted design, inspired by Marcel Duchamp's art, helps people consider serious notions like „contemporary art" and „museum" from a different angle. Alongside the permanent exhibition, temporary shows are an integral feature.
The same building also houses the Centre for Contemporary Art, founded in 1974, a significant actor in the area of exhibition programmes, performance and multi-medial projects.
