25Hours Hotel Zurich West

25Hours Hotel Zurich West is the ideal spot to start your adventures in “the Wild West” (which is what Zurich's currently stylish Kreis 5 district is now being called). The hotel has been designed by local architect Alfredo Häberli, who has also worked with Volvo, Camper and Vitra. Imagine, if you will, a ping-pong table in the lobby, rooms divided into three categories (silver, gold and platinum), and urban graffiti sprawling across walls in the most unusual of places – the whole design scheme is a clever reference to the neighbourhood's industrial past as well as a tongue-in-cheek homage to Swiss stereotypes. In the light-blue lift there's a sign that says “No surveillance cameras”, the modestly-sized fitness centre has wooden work-out equipment, and the platinum rooms have balconies that look like miniature meadows in the urban jungle. But the main standout feature at 25Hours Hotel is their “bicycle park” – guests of the hotel have free use of the bikes, but keep in mind that they cannot be reserved, so it's “first-come, first-served”.
