Café Henrici

Coffee has usurped wine as the “beverage of the moment”, and if you're a true java aficionado, then Zurich's Café Henrici is the place for you. Named after Christian Freidrich Henrici, author of the text for Bach's “Coffee Cantata”, Café Henrici is nestled into a historical 14th-century building that used to accomodate a beer house. Both the interior design and atmosphere of the place is one of youthful affordability.

The café is owned by the sister-and-brother team of Olivia and Christof Huber; they returned to Switzerland six years ago after having spent some time in San Francisco, and brought the coffee culture of the Golden State along with them. Café Henrici also serves up a mean lunch – a good choice of salads and excellent Flammkuchen (the Alsatian version of pizza). Christof almost always serves his customers himself, and when asked, gladly gives advice about the best things to see and do in Zurich.
